I do have a wonderful old picture of the wheelbarrow race - not sure which year or who took it but someone may recognise one or more participants! I remember when we first moved to the village in the 70s (yes, that long ago!)most of the residents would turn out to watch it along the route from the B&G via the New Inn to the White Hart. And it did raise money for the British Legion.
Both the Village Society and the Flower Show Committee have tried to bring back this event - but are powerless in face of the Health and Safety lobbies. The best we could do was a race for children and parents round the playground on Village Day or the same sort of thing round the field at the Flower Show. Anyone who'd like to take on the powers that be and bring back the fancy dress road race would have a lot of local support, I'm sure.

After a slightly bizarre morning transport-wise for the Gillotts children I have been informed by Gillotts that those children usually picked up from Gravel Road and Kings Common Close should wait for the bus at the bus stop by the Post Office for collection at 8.13am until normal service resumes on the 14th Feb.

Lovely picture, David: thanks for posting it. I might copy this one onto the main website, when I'm next editing a suitable page. Richard.
